What Does My Landlord Own? was a web-based property ownership search engine made by sunset_flowers, launched in January 2023. In its seven months of operation before the group, regretfully, allowed it to be shut down by the Privacy Commissioner, WDMLO garnered hundreds of angry emails from landlords and property developers alike.
Enclosed in this zine are a selection of these emails, chosen for how they entertain or shock. Most of all, these emails reveal the deep fragility of this introduced species, the New Zealand Landlord. The way they lash out when their parasitism is put in the spotlight, and linked with the horrors of colonialism, should bring hope to the renters of Aotearoa that we can do something: strike fear into their hearts.
